Trip Summary

Entries and daily reflcetions from a tired group.

June 1, 2004 -- Day 1:

“On the radio on the way to the airport we heard that this could be the most highly trafficked day at Hartsfield ever. We believed it! The ticketing line was not too long, but the line for security weaved in and out of the building and all the length of the outside sidewalk! Very, very, very long!” – Andrea Jones

From Morocco:
"Hey Ya'll,
Sorry to be so long in writing. We tried to send an email earlier but I don't think that it sent!
It is very expensive to call and use internet time, but our biggest barrier in communication has been the time difference. When we have time to call, ya'll are asleep! We have been very busy and had a lot of fun!
This weekend was great! The international sacred music festival was awesome!
The first concert was in the garden/patio of a museum and the Iranian Sufi chants were sung by men sitting under a big tree. The second one was in the open area in the center of an old castle/fortress. There were thousands of people. It was sold out. I had to beg for tickets from guards on the street to get us all in!
Yesterday, we had a tour of Fez and lots of shopping.
Today we are back to work. Some of us are in the garden and others are cutting the grass with reapers.
We miss you and look forward to seeing you soon, andrea"

News from Morocco: As of Saturday, June 5, our group called from Fez. They said they were all doing well. The accomodations were fine and the food is okay. On Saturday and Sunday, they were attending the International Sacred Music Festival. They also had some time for shopping and sightseeing. Laura reported that they were struggling to communicate since no one speaks English and none of our group speaks Arabic. She said everyone was very friendly and nice. They will return to the place they are staying Sunday night and continue working in the children's home Monday through Thursday. They are still hoping to email us soon.
